Rishabh Pant Becomes First Indian and Fastest to Hit 100 Sixes in Test Cricket

Rishabh Pant 100 sixes in Test cricket: Rishabh Pant has created history in Test Cricket by becoming the first Indian batter to hit 100 sixes in Tests. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter reached the landmark during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, adding another remarkable achievement to an already impressive career.

Pant achieved the milestone in his 51st Test match and 89th Test innings, making him the fastest batter in Test history to reach 100 sixes. He moved past the previous record associated with former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist, while also becoming only the fourth overall to reach the century of Test sixes.

Rishabh Pant Reaches a Historic Milestone

The achievement is particularly significant because six-hitting has become one of the defining features of Pant’s batting style. Since making his Test debut against England in 2018, the left-handed batter has consistently challenged traditional ideas about how Test cricket should be played.

Before reaching the landmark, Pant had already established himself as India’s leading six-hitter in Test cricket. In November 2025, he overtook Virender Sehwag’s tally of 90 Test sixes to become India’s most prolific six-hitter in the longest format.

Now, with Rishabh Pant at 100 sixes in Test cricket, he has moved into an even more exclusive group.

Only the Fourth Batter to Reach 100 Test Sixes

Pant’s achievement puts him alongside some of the most aggressive batters in Test history. Before him, only Adam Gilchrist, Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes had reached 100 sixes in the format. Pant is now the fourth player to join that elite list.

What makes the achievement even more remarkable is the speed with which Pant reached the mark. His 100th six came in only his 89th Test innings, allowing him to claim the record for reaching 100 sixes in Test cricket in the fewest innings.

Pant’s approach has always been different from that of many conventional Test batters. Rather than waiting for loose deliveries, he frequently takes the attack to bowlers, using powerful strokes against both pace and spin.

A Milestone That Reflects Pant’s Batting Style

Pant’s success in Test cricket has been built around his ability to combine aggression with match awareness. According to current career statistics, Pant has scored more than 3,500 Test runs, including eight centuries and 19 fifties. His Test record also includes a career-best 159 against Australia.

His six-hitting numbers are especially impressive considering that Test cricket generally offers fewer opportunities for aggressive stroke-making than limited-overs formats.

Pant’s ability to clear the boundary has therefore become an important part of his value to the Indian Test team. His fearless approach can put opposition bowlers under pressure and force captains to change their field settings.

Pant’s Remarkable Comeback

The latest milestone also adds another chapter to Pant’s remarkable comeback story.

In December 2022, Pant suffered a serious car accident that threatened both his career and his life. After a lengthy recovery, he returned to competitive cricket and subsequently regained his place in India’s Test side. The BCCI has highlighted his resilience and his return to international cricket as one of the notable chapters of his career.

His return to Test cricket was followed by further strong performances, demonstrating that he had retained the aggressive style that made him one of India’s most exciting players.
