American actor Hayden Panettiere, who rose to international fame through television dramas including “Heroes” and “Nashville,” has died at the age of 36, her family has confirmed. Her father, Skip Panettiere, announced her death in a statement provided to ABC News. The circumstances and cause of death have not been publicly disclosed.
Panettiere’s death comes just days before her 37th birthday and marks the loss of an actor whose career began in childhood and eventually expanded across television, film, music and voice work.
She became widely known in 2006 when she was cast as Claire Bennet in NBC’s “Heroes.” The character, a high-school cheerleader with regenerative abilities, became one of the show’s defining figures as the series followed ordinary people discovering extraordinary powers.
The role turned Panettiere into a young television star and earned her three Teen Choice Awards. Her rise, however, was not limited to one genre or one series.
From child actor to television star
Panettiere began working in entertainment as a child, appearing in commercials and soap operas before moving into larger film and television roles. Among her early credits was “Remember the Titans,” where she played Sheryl Yoast.

Panettiere’s father, in announcing her death, asked for privacy for the family as they deal with the loss. The statement remembered her as someone who brought joy both to those close to her and to the millions who watched her work.
