Krafton India is bringing a lighter version of its flagship battle-royale game to the country, confirming that Battlegrounds Mobile India Lite (BGMI Lite) is scheduled to launch in India by the end of 2026.
The announcement could be significant for players using older or entry-level smartphones, particularly those who struggle with performance, storage or hardware demands while running the full version of BGMI. However, Krafton has not yet revealed the exact release date or the technical specifications of the upcoming game.
For now, players know that BGMI Lite is intended to provide a more accessible version of the BGMI experience. Krafton has yet to disclose its minimum RAM requirement, supported processors, download size, graphics options, maps or gameplay modes.
Why BGMI Lite matters for budget-phone users
BGMI has grown into one of India’s largest mobile gaming titles. Krafton’s own BGMI page currently lists 260 million accumulated downloads, highlighting the scale of its Indian player base.
That scale also creates a challenge: not every player has a smartphone capable of comfortably handling an increasingly feature-rich battle-royale game.
A Lite edition could allow Krafton to reach users whose devices have limited processing power, RAM or storage. The company has not, however, promised that BGMI Lite will replicate the technical approach used by its earlier PUBG Mobile Lite product.
The distinction matters because much of the current discussion surrounding BGMI Lite is based on expectations rather than confirmed specifications.
What the previous PUBG Mobile Lite tells us
There is a precedent for a lighter battle-royale experience. PUBG Mobile Lite, launched in 2019, was designed for less powerful Android smartphones. According to The Economic Times, the game was approximately 400MB at launch, supported devices with less than 2GB of RAM and used a smaller map with 60-player matches rather than the 100-player format of the full game.
Those details provide useful context, but they should not be treated as specifications for BGMI Lite. Krafton has not confirmed that the Indian game will use the same player count, map design, installation size or engine configuration.
Release date and specifications are still unknown
Despite confirmation of a 2026 launch window, there is no specific BGMI Lite release date yet.
Krafton is also keeping the game’s core details under wraps. Players will have to wait for further announcements covering:

The Lite launch comes as Krafton continues to invest heavily in its Indian gaming business. Earlier in 2026, the company said it planned to release three to five new games in India while expanding beyond its flagship battle-royale franchise.
BGMI itself also remains central to Krafton’s Indian strategy. The company continues to run major esports competitions, including BGIS and BMPS, and describes BGMI as one of India’s leading mobile games.
For Krafton, BGMI Lite therefore represents more than another version of an existing game. If it can deliver a genuinely lower hardware barrier without compromising the experience players expect, it could bring the franchise to a larger segment of India’s smartphone market.
For players, the next major milestone will be Krafton’s disclosure of the official release date and system requirements. Until then, the end-of-2026 launch window is the key confirmed information.
