POCO M8 5G Gets Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, 120Hz AMOLED Display and 5,520mAh Battery: Price and Specs

The POCO M8 5G has now moved beyond the rumour stage, and several specifications initially reported as leaks have since been clarified. Contrary to early reports suggesting a Snapdragon 4-series or MediaTek Dimensity chipset, the smartphone officially launched with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor.

POCO launched the M8 5G in India on January 8, 2026, with sales beginning through Flipkart on January 13. The phone is positioned in the sub-Rs 25,000 segment, combining a curved AMOLED display, a large battery and a 50-megapixel camera.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 powers the POCO M8 5G

The biggest correction to the early reports concerns the processor. The phone does not use the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 or MediaTek Dimensity 6300 mentioned in the original leak. POCO’s official specifications confirm the 4nm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, with an octa-core CPU clocked at up to 2.4GHz.

The device comes with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. Official specifications list 8GB+256GB and 8GB+512GB configurations globally, while Indian retail configurations included 6GB+128GB, 8GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB variants.

This makes the M8 5G a more performance-focused proposition than the early leaked specifications suggested.

6.77-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen

Another major departure from the original report is the display. Instead of an HD+ LCD panel, the POCO M8 5G features a 6.77-inch Flow AMOLED display with a 2392×1080 resolution and refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

POCO claims peak brightness of up to 3,200 nits, while the panel supports 12-bit colour depth and a 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut. The curved display is housed in a body measuring just 7.35mm thick and weighing around 178 grams.

For buyers, that combination means the phone’s display is one of its key upgrades, particularly for video streaming, gaming and outdoor use.

5,520mAh battery with 45W charging

Battery life is another area where the final specifications differ substantially from the earlier leak. The POCO M8 5G carries a 5,520mAh silicon-carbon battery and supports 45W wired fast charging.

POCO also lists up to 18W wired reverse charging, allowing the phone to function as a power source for compatible accessories and other devices. The company says the battery can retain more than 80% of its capacity after 1,600 complete charge cycles under its internal testing conditions.

50MP camera and 4K video recording

Photography is handled by a 50-megapixel primary rear camera, accompanied by a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The main camera uses POCO’s Light Fusion 400 sensor and supports 4K video recording at 30 frames per second.

The phone also features a 20-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls. AI-based image-editing features include object removal and reflection removal, although availability can vary by market and software version.

The Indian launch pricing was higher than the initial “below Rs 20,000” leak suggested for all variants.

The phone launched at:

  • 6GB + 128GB: Rs 18,999
  • 8GB + 128GB: Rs 19,999
  • 8GB + 256GB: Rs 21,999

A limited launch promotion temporarily reduced the effective starting price to Rs 15,999. The handset was offered through Flipkart in Carbon Black, Glacial Blue and Frost Silver finishes.

The phone also includes features such as an in-screen fingerprint scanner, dual speakers, NFC and an IR blaster. POCO lists an IP66 rating for dust and water resistance under controlled laboratory conditions.

What the early leaks got wrong

The original reports around the POCO M8 5G pointed to a much more modest specification sheet, including a Snapdragon 4-series or Dimensity 6300 processor, an HD+ LCD panel and a 6,000mAh battery.

The final retail product is considerably different: it uses the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, a 120Hz Full-HD+ AMOLED display, a 5,520mAh battery and 45W charging. That makes the launched device substantially more capable than the early specifications indicated.

For consumers, the most relevant takeaway is that the M8 5G ultimately arrived as a feature-rich lower-mid-range 5G phone rather than the entry-level handset suggested by the initial leaks.

What buyers should watch

The POCO M8 5G’s strongest selling points are its curved AMOLED display, Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset, large silicon-carbon battery and long-term software support. The main question for buyers is whether its camera hardware and software experience justify the price against competing phones in the same range.

POCO has also promised four years of Android updates and six years of security patches, giving the handset a longer software runway than many budget-focused smartphones.
